U.S. Exports of Nickel Scrap Surged 38%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In accordance with statistics published by the U.S. Census Bureau, the country reported substantial surge in exports of nickel waste and scrap through the initial ten months of the current year. The imports too skyrocketed, when compared with the corresponding ten-month period in 2017.

The U.S. exports of nickel waste and scrap totaled $138.58 million through Oct ’18, significantly higher by 37.80% from the previous year. The exports had totaled only $100.57 million in Jan-Oct ’17.

The key destination market for U.S. nickel scrap exports was Canada. The country accounted for nearly 78% of the total U.S. exports during the initial ten-month period. The imports by Canada surged higher significantly by almost 40% over the previous year to total $108.06 million. The exports to Japan skyrocketed by 111.2% over the previous year to total $8.37 million. In third place was the UK with imports totaling $6.94 million. Australia ($4.23 million) and Sweden ($3.87 million) were the other major importers of nickel scrap from the U.S.

The U.S. imports of nickel waste and scrap too were up significantly by 64.74%. The imports totaled $273.31 million, as compared with $165.9 million during Jan-Oct ’17. The top five sources of import were the UK, Canada, Russia, China and Germany. Nearly 63.32% of the total U.S imports were from the above five foreign markets. The combined imports from these countries totaled $173.06 million until October this year.
