U.S. Exports of Nickel Scrap Soared 38%

U.S. Exports of Nickel Scrap Soared 38%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): With reference to the latest statistics published by the U.S. Census Bureau, the country reported substantial surge in exports of nickel waste and scrap during the entire year 2018. The imports too were up significantly, when compared with the year before that.

The U.S. exported $156.84 million of nickel waste and scrap by value during the whole year 2018. This is significantly higher by 29.48% from the previous year. The exports had totaled only $121.13 million in 2017, the Census Bureau data said.

The major export destination of U.S. nickel scrap in 2018 was Canada. The country accounted for more than 76% of the total U.S. exports during the year. The imports by Canada surged higher significantly by almost 29% over the previous year to total $119.77 million. The exports to Japan totaled $10.92 million, registering year-on-year increase by 128%. In third place was the UK with imports totaling $7.53 million. The other top importers of nickel scrap from the U.S. were Australia ($5.57 million) and Sweden ($4.81 million).

The U.S. imports of nickel waste and scrap too were up significantly by 48.44%. The imports in 2018 totaled $318.02 million, as compared with $214.25 million in 2017. The top five sources of import were the UK, Canada, Russia, China and Germany. Nearly 62.85% of the total U.S imports were from the above five foreign markets. The combined imports from these countries totaled $188.61 million out of the $318.02 million total.
