Smurfit Kappa Attains Major Milestone in Sustainable Packaging

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging leader Smurfit Kappa announced the launch of new initiative, intended to bring radical changes to the world of sustainable packaging. The ‘Smurfit Kappa Batter Planet Packaging’ initiative was officially launched at the company’s European Management Conference held last week in Berlin, Germany.

The new initiative focuses on futuristic product design, by conducting extensive research and development in co-operation with existing and new partners. This in turn will bring revolutionary changes in sustainable packaging solutions in future. According to Arco Berkenbosch, Vice President- Innovation and Development, Smurfit Kappa, the new initiative will enable the company to explore the packaging required for a sustainable world. This marks another important milestone in its journey to 100% sustainable packaging solutions, he added.

It must be noted that Smurfit Kappa’s strong track record in sustainability has earned several international recognitions. For instance, it had recently won the prestigious ‘Best Environmental Approach’ award in Andesco Sustainability Awards in Colombia, in recognition of various initiatives undertaken by the company to ensure sustainability of resources and establishment of circular economy.

The company was also listed on FTSE 4Good Sustainability Index for the fifth consecutive year for its strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance.
