Schnitzer Steel Industries Named 2018 Scrap Company of the Year

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. has been selected as the winner of 2018 Scrap Company of the Year, as part of American Metal Market (AMM) Awards for Steel Excellence. This is the third time the company has won the award for Scrap Company of the Year. The award was announced during the Annual Steel Awards Dinner recently held in New York in connection with the Annual Steel Success Strategies Conference held jointly by AMM and World Steel Dynamics.

The winner was selected from among other finalists who also included B.L. Duke; Ferrous Processing & Trading Company; Liberty Iron & Metal Inc; PSC Metals Inc; Sims Brothers Recycling; Triple M Metal LP and W Silver Recycling Inc. The winner was selected by an expert panel of judges comprising of top industry veterans. It must be noted that this year’s finalists totaled 53 companies spread across 15 different categories, who were shortlisted by a team comprising of senior AMM editors.

Tamara Lundgren, President and Chief Executive Officer, Schnitzer Steel noted that the company is once again honored to be recognized as Scrap Company of the Year. Schnitzer Steel had recently announced financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2018 ended May 31, 2018. The company had recorded its best ever quarterly consolidated operating income since fiscal 2011. The ferrous sales volume had surged higher significantly by 19% during the quarter.
