SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corporation announced reorganization of the company’s plate mill group. This includes ceasing production at Nucor Steel Longview, LLC. All Longview employees will be offered employment opportunities at the company’s other divisions.
According to company news release, the mill which produces heavy steel plates, was purchased for around $29 million in 2016. The mill has an estimated annual capacity of approximately 100,000 tons.

Nucor Provided Updates on New West Virginia Sheet Mill
The company expects to phase out the production at the mill during third quarter this year. The production will be transferred to Nucor's remaining plate mills, including its new state-of-the-art plate mill in Brandenburg, Kentucky. The Longview assets will be evaluated and deployed across its other mills, wherever appropriate.
Commenting on the decision, Al Behr, Executive Vice President for Plate and Structural Products expressed the hope that all teammates at Longview will choose to remain a part of Nucor family and accept positions at other divisions. He thanked all of them for their outstanding performance and achievements during the past several years.
Nucor’s plate group now comprises of discrete plate mill in Hertford County, North Carolina, cut-to-length and discrete mill in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the new Brandenburg, Kentucky plate mill.
