New QC System to Ensure Quality of Recovered Paper Exports

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Recycling Association and CCIC London have jointly developed a new Quality Control (QC) scheme to help recyclers meet the newly imposed restrictions by Chinese administration on paper exported to that country. The inspection mechanism associated with the new scheme will ensure that the material meets China’s threshold contamination limit of 0.5%.

Those companies who wish to take part in the new scheme are required to introduce it at the depot level along with the existing quality control schemes. The data fed into the new scheme will be made available to CCIC London through an app. All the companies who do not wish to join the scheme will continue to have all their China-bound consignments physically inspected by CCIC London.

The partnership, in its next phase of development, aims to make use of blockchain technology so that all parties involved in shipping the consignment, including the depot, exporter, shipping line, CCIC, environment agencies, destination customs authorities and the importer of the material, would be able to view the load details. At the same time, competitor companies will not be able to view the details. In future, the exports to global destinations other than China would also be covered.

The new QC mechanism will enable exporters to ensure that the exported materials meet the updated rules of the destination country.
