SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Chicago, Illinois-headquartered Mondelez International, Inc. announced plans to cut its use of virgin plastic in rigid plastics packaging by 25% by 2025. This would reduce virgin plastics use in its overall plastic packaging portfolio by 5%, said the company press release. The company aims to announce a series of measures to achieve this objective, including elimination of plastic material, increased use of recycled content and the adoption of reuse models.
Mondelez already has set a goal to use 5% recycled content by weight across its plastic packaging. Also, it aims to design all packaging for recyclability by 2025. The company is already on its path to achieve these goals, with 94% of its packaging already designed to be recycled.

Dirk Van de Put, chairman and chief executive officer for Mondelez International noted that the company is one among the most efficient users of plastic packaging in the consumer goods industry. It has already made significant strides to reduce use of plastic packaging. The company will invest in innovation to switch to more easily recyclable materials for packaging, he added.
