MacRebur to Construct New Plastics Recycling Plant in Florida

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): An U.K.-based end-of-life plastics recycler announced its decision to expand into the U.S. MacRebur selected Florida as the location for its latest plant. The company provides market for end-of-life plastics by adding them into asphalt for road construction.

The proposed U.S. plant will work in tandem with construction businesses as well as asphalt manufacturers, bitumen producers and preblenders. The exact location within Florida will be announced soon, the company noted. The new U.S. plant will have production capacity of up to 10,000 tons per annum.

Toby McCartney, CEO, MacRebur stated that the new plant presents an opportunity to offer a green alternative in tackling the growing problem of plastic packaging, which is cited as one among the largest contributors to waste within the U.S. Florida’s private market, in the form of parking lots and private roads, offers significant opportunities. In addition, the plant will also export products to overseas markets in Bahamas and Bermuda, he added.

As per rough estimates, MacRebur uses equivalent of approximately 1.2 million single-use plastic bags for each mile of road made by it. All of the products by the company meet various worldwide road standards.
