SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Grupo Gondi- the Mexico-headquartered paper and cardboard packaging company announced start-up of its new paper machine PM7 at its Monterrey mill in Mexico. The company declared that the paper machine produced first reel of paper on January 5th, 2021.
The construction and installation works of the new paper machine took almost two years, in the midst of Covid-19-related challenges. During this phase, the company employed nearly 2,100 people, in addition to 6,300 indirect jobs.

Gondi Grupo claims that PM7 is the most modern recycled containerboard mill in entire Latin American region. The production capacity is estimated at around 400,000 metric tons per year of lightweight. It uses Voith’s cutting edge technology in production, automation and quality control. With the production start-up of this mill, the company’s installed capacity has now reached 1.1 million metric tons of paper production per year.
Eduardo Posada, Grupo Gondi´s CEO noted that the startup represents a crucial step to the beginning of the company’s productive process. The company is committed to reach its goal of establishing the most innovative low basis weight recycled containerboard mill of Mexico and Latin America, he added.
Grupo Gondi currently operates 14 converting plants and 7 recycled paper machines.
