European Metal Recycling Ltd. Sets Ambitious Net-Zero Carbon Emission Goal

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The UK-based European Metal Recycling Ltd. (EMR) has launched a new sustainability strategy, aimed at boosting the company’s efforts to achieve the set target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The ‘Our Decade of Action’ strategy outlines the key targets and milestones over the next ten years and the measures intended to be taken over this period in attaining the goal.

The company plans to achieve net-zero target for indirect emissions created by the purchase of electricity or steam by 2030. Also, it sets 2040 target for direct emissions all owned and/or controlled sources and indirect emissions upstream and downstream in the value chain. In order to drive these efforts, EMR has already joined initiatives by the major nonprofit ‘The Climate Group’.

The company aims to have 100% of its operations powered by renewable electricity by 2030. It aims electrification of 100% of cars and LCVs and 50% of small goods vehicles. Further, it targets to achieve 10% energy productivity improvement for total kilowatt per ton of material handled.

Chris Sheppard, Group CEO, EMR noted that the company is proud to set out its commitment to tackling climate change and conserving natural resources with a series of ambitious targets.
