DS Smith Focuses on Recycling Benefits of Expanded Polystyrene

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In a recent publication, the U.K-based DS Smith Plastics, Foam Products has highlighted the waste reduction and recycling opportunities for Expanded Polystyrene (EPS).

DS Smith notes that EPS is being increasingly recycled by businesses and consumers across the world into a variety of new products. Incidentally, recycling turns EPS that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources. Local associations have been involved in efforts to set up a network of collection sites, where consumers and businesses could drop off their EPS. Apart from recycling, there exists additional waste-reduction options for EPS packaging namely, reduce, re-use and recover.

In order to promote recycling efforts, the company offers EPS recycling points at its manufacturing facilities across the U.K. These recycling points help to divert approximately 30 tonnes of EPS waste from landfills every year. According to the company, EPC recycling efforts in the country could see notable jump with boost in recycling infrastructure. EPS recycling in the country is still in its infancy, DS Smith Plastics, Foam Products noted.

In addition, the company has demonstrated the opportunities of EPS recycling by ensuring that as much recycled granulated EPS is utilized in the product mix during the manufacture of new products. Further, the company promises to focus on EPS recycling in future, in order to realize its full recycling potential.
