Cox Enterprises Clears Major Milestone by Recycling 100,000 Tons of Materials

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-headquartered Cox Enterprises has announced that it has reached a major milestone by recycling 100,000th ton of materials since 2013. It must be noted that the company’s corporate sustainability program targets to achieve zero waste to landfill objective by 2024. This achievement is considered to be an important milestone in the company’s journey to zero waste. The company’s national sustainability program named ‘Con Conserves’ was launched in 2007.

As per estimates, the company has invested more than $1 million across various recycling facilities. The subsidiaries of the Cox Enterprises have won several recognitions for their quality recycling efforts. For instance, a wing of Con Media Group had become the first U.S. newspaper to receive gold-level certification from the US Zero Waste Building Council. This was in recognition for the company’s efforts in launching widespread recycling and composting initiatives across various locations, which had led to significant amounts of waste ending up in landfills.

As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, Seven Islands Environmental Solutions, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cox Enterprises had recently opened the doors of Golden Isles Conservation Center in Brantley County. The facility located in Nahunta, Ga., makes use of the Italian pyrolysis technology for the first time in the US. The eco-friendly process uses organic materials such as wood chip to generate heat, which then breaks down discarded end-of-life tires into their original components.

Cox Enterprises Vice President of Environmental Sustainability Keith Mask noted that high levels of sustainability could be achieved only through collective efforts. The company ensures participation of all its employees and customers in the innovative and environmentally responsible programs designed to boost recycling and repurposing of materials. The collective efforts have helped the company to achieve the important recycling milestone, Mask added. The company will continue its efforts towards conservation of water, preservation of energy and reduction of waste as part of its national sustainability program.
