Alcoa Published 2021 Sustainability Report Outlining ESG Progress

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Corporation released its 2021 Sustainability Report, which provides an overview of its progress against key environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives. The report titled “Reinventing for a sustainable future” narrates a new technology roadmap, aimed at decarbonising and transforming the entire aluminum value chain.

The company made significant strides in improving its environmental footprint, For instance, it achieved 9.1% dip in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and 15.4% dip in landfilled waste. By the end of the previous year, 81% of electricity consumed by the company smelters was from renewable sources.

With the introduction of technology roadmap, it continued to accelerate the development of breakthrough innovations. By updating the Biodiversity Policy, Alcoa has demonstrated its commitment to contribute toward halting deforestation globally. Also, Alcoa Foundation has partnered to develop tools that can help reduce the drivers of biodiversity loss from industry, said the report.

In addition, Alcoa reported significant progress in working to investigate new products that can help support the low-carbon transition.
