SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded a marginal increase of 1.0% during the week ending on August 31, 2024, upon comparison with the corresponding week a year before. This is with reference to the most recent weekly domestic production statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totaled 1.760 million net tons (NT). The percentage of domestic mill capabilities utilized was 79.2%. It is important to remember that during the same week last year, production reached 1.742 million NT at a lower capacity utilization rate of 76.6%.

However, the weekly crude steel production recorded a marginal decline of 1.2% when compared with the previous week. The production was 1.782 million NT during the week ended August 24, 2024, with a capability utilization rate of 80.2%.
With a production of 760,000 net tons, the Southern region was the top producer. During the week, the Great Lakes region produced 602,000 net tons. The following are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons): North East: 125, Midwest: 212, and Western: 61.
The adjusted year-to-date production totaled 59.34 million net tons through August 31, 2024, at a capacity utilization rate of 76.6%. This is down by 2.0% upon comparison with the production of 60.560 million net tons and the capacity utilization rate of 77.2% in the corresponding year-to-date period in 2023.
