WeeCycle’s mission is to recycle essential baby gear and match it to Colorado families in need.

WeeCycle’s mission is twofold, to support families with infants and toddlers struggling to provide for their children, and to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet for future generations. WeeCycle walks alongside families, caregivers, and caseworkers to restore dignity for those struggling to provide for their families by connecting them to essential supplies such as formula, a safe place for their baby to sleep, a stroller so they can access public transportation and so much more.

WeeCycle is a Colorado-based nonprofit working hard to improve the lives of local families in need. We collect, “weecycle” and match essential baby gear to families through partner organizations focused on alleviating poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, teen pregnancy, under-employment and other challenges. By “weecycling” baby gear to meet children’s basic needs, we help keep them healthy and safe and contribute to a cleaner environment for their future.

OURHISTORY

In 2007, Sunny Heydorn and Jayme Ricthie were attorneys at a law firm in Denver who left the corporate world and began the career of a lifetime: motherhood. It was during a time of economic recession and, while they were able to support their families, they became concerned about other new moms and babies who had no income to buy essentials like diapers, car seats, and cribs. After researching local poverty statistics and needs, they decided to start a nonprofit called WeeCycle that would provide gently used baby gear to families in need. They used $100 from selling a futon on Craig’s List to build a website and purchase business cards, and they reached out to their neighbors, local schools and companies to gather inventory.

WeeCycle grew rapidly as they set up partnerships with other local nonprofits and began filling orders for families in need. They realized that they weren’t just helping families but also building community and connecting people, as gear donors would drive miles out of their way to donate and attach loving notes describing how to use a particular piece of equipment. The nonprofit became a catalyst for community change and human empowerment, provided ease and safety for families with infants and toddlers and gave hope for the future.

Now, more than 15 years later, WeeCycle has connected with thousands of families across the state of Colorado, has built partnerships with hundreds of nonprofit organizations doing amazing work in our communities and has become an integral part in the village it takes to raise a child.
