HISTORY

In 1961, United States Socket Screw Mfg., Corp. (U.S. Socket) was founded under the name Sutton Bolt in New York City. Within six months of selling bolts and nuts from his station wagon, U.S. Socket founder Jac Roth realized there was a real need for a stocking distributor of Socket Screw products in the New York area at prices much lower than other companies like Bristol, Allen, Parker Kalon and Stevens.

A 6,000 square foot building was leased in early 1962 and later progressed to a 17,000 sq. ft. building six years later. In the early seventies three branches were opened in Georgia, Ohio, and Michigan with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. During this time five distributing companies, namely Interstate Fasteners, Action Fasteners, Commercial Bolt, Detroit Bolt, and Michigan Bolt & Nut were purchased under the U.S. Socket parent name.

In 1981 U.S. Socket began manufacturing alloy and stainless Dowel and Pull Dowel Pins establishing the subsidiary United Dowel Pin Mfg., Co. With the increase of the pin business, two neighboring buildings totaling 36,000 square feet were purchased so that our nine screw machines, nine headers and 22 centerless grinders plus our finished goods inventory would have a large home with the consolidation.

U.S. Socket purchased two bolt formers and two thread rollers in 1992 and began the manufacture of American and Metric socket cap screws in sizes 1/4-3/8 and 8mm-10mm diameters. U.S. Socket expanded its operations by purchasing Precision Socket Set Screw Co. in Detroit, Michigan in 2001. This year we are pleased to announce the grand opening of our Chicago distribution warehouse which will stock our complete socket and dowel pin lines.
