In 1936, our founder, Jack Rosenbaum started Southern Hide, Wool and Junk Company in downtown Pensacola, Florida with two employees. The company was moved to its present location in 1937 when we landed our first major demolition of a saw-mill in Opp, Alabama. While bringing the scrap back into Pensacola, our truck broke down alongside the highway at our present location and we rented the land from the owners. Recalling those early days in scrap metal processing, everything was handled by hand with torches, picks and axes, and pushed by wheelbarrows up make-shift ramps into trucks and railroad gondolas. There were no scales. Today we utilize sophisticated technology including electronic scales, scrap metal shears, cranes, computer systems, and heavy duty hydraulic equipment.

Southern Scrap Company is a full service scrap metal processor, with both ferrous and non-ferrous operation and waste hauling. We have and continued to use the same business philosophy of our founders. WASTE HAULING SERVICES:

We previously provided solid waste hauling and disposal for over twenty years though our Southern Waste & container subsidiary before selling to BFI (now Allied Waste) in 1990. After Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the need for our return to waste hauling was evident throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. We expanded and upgraded our fleet with new roll-off trucks and containers, hired additional drivers and courteous customer service representatives to assist our customers' requests.

At Southern Scrap, we stock hundreds of 20, 30 and 40-yard open top Roll-Off Containers for construction and demolition debris or household cleanup. Our container and disposal prices are more than competitive and we work with our customers to meet their specific needs.
