Howard Schwartz founded S & J Sheet Metal Supply Inc. in the Bronx in 1955, serving the trade with stock and customized sheet metal products. Upon the retirement of its founder, the business was turned over to his son and son in law, Steven Schwartz and Michael Gottlieb. Steven Schwartz who was born and raised in the Bronx is the so-called outside partner being responsible for finance vendors and sales. Michael Gottlieb who was raised in Brooklyn is responsible for manufacturing. The second generation expanded the business in the late 80's to mid 90's, adding a commercial and residential roofing supply division in the Bronx and opening two showroom/warehouses in Brooklyn.
