Close the Loop with Battery Recycling
When it’s time for a new battery, recycle the one you’re replacing.
Buying a reconditioned battery is a wise choice, but not all batteries are in good enough condition to be put back into action. In cases where an old battery can no longer hold a charge, recycling is your best bet — and is the best way and environmentally responsible way to properly dispose of an old battery and keeping it out of the landfill.
That’s important for the future of the planet, and thanks to an industry-wide commitment, lead-acid batteries have a 99.3% recycling rate, making them the No. 1 recycled consumer product in the world.
Because of the commitment of customers like you, we are keeping approximately 450 million pounds of batteries out of landfills every year, making a huge difference in the future of our environment.
When you recycle a battery, you’re also doing something for yourself. In addition to doing good for the planet, recycling allows the industry to continue making more batteries at a lower cost. Battery recycling follows a simple circular process.
The three components of a battery (electrolyte, lead and plastic) are separated.
The electrolyte fluid is drained and turned into a PH-neutral liquid so it can be disposed of or be used in other types of manufacturing, such as glass and textiles.
The plastic is turned into pellets.
The lead is melted and turned into ingots.
The plastic and lead are then used to manufacture a new battery.
