About Company

Since 1919, Pittsburg Tank & Tower Company (PTT) has committed its resources to provide engineered structures with exemplary service for municipal water storage and industrial storage facilities. PTT’s knowledge and customer base has increased to new levels since then, and the exemplary service has been extended to help new storage facilities. PTT is now one of North America’s leading full-service suppliers of field erected tanks, with extensive experience in maintenance and inspection services.

Services

Since 1919, PTT has not only designed, fabricated and erected tanks, but also dismantled, moved, and re-erected thousands of tanks originally installed by other tank manufactures. This broad experience has given PTT the unique advantage of handling the repairs and maintenance of virtually any tank. PTT’s flexibility allows these repairs to be made quickly on an emergency basis or routinely, with minimal service interruption.

Tank Repair

API-653 and AWWA D-100 Major Repairs

PTT’s proven experience and knowledge allows repairs to be designed and performed in accordance with all applicable standards. PTT can provide repairs, replacement, and modifications to meet any need.

Secondary Bottom & Leak Detection

PTT’s secondary containment and leak detection systems have proved effective in the storage of chemical and petroleum products. These systems have been utilized throughout North America to keep facilities in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

A Pittsburg crew is shown retrofitting an existing tank with a double-bottom secondary containment system-including leak detection ports.  This installation as shown is compliant with API 653.

Tank Relocation & Modification

Relocation

Relocating a tank or tanks in a system, to alter performance, has proved to be a cost-effective alternative to new tank construction, and the resulting systems experience no compromise in performance. PTT’s knowledge and customer service has produced many repeat customers. These engineers trust PTT’s operations in moving and re-erecting, and they know PTT will review all possibilities to help determine the best option.

Raising/Lowering Existing Tanks

PTT is the proven industry leader in tank elevation modifications. A change in elevation or capacity needed to provide for the growing population or system reconfiguration does not always require a new tank design or construction. Raising or lowering a tank by 20 to 50 feet is common, and it is not limited to size or elevation. Recently, a 3,000,000 gallon standpipe was raised 20 feet to match existing pressure zones. The greater elevation increased the tank capacity by 500,000 gallons.
Over the years, PTT has saved municipalities and industrial customers millions of dollars by raising or lowering tank elevations to meet applicable standards and codes, rather than supplying a new tank. The resulting storage tank can meet new specifications without compromise. These modifications require a fraction of new construction time, and the savings to the final owners can be tremendous.

Tank Re-Certification

The useful life of a welded steel tank can span into many decades and can be used for various services during that time. Often, tanks are used for a service they were not originally designed for. PTT can offer tank re-certification services needed for the permits. Services may include engineered calculations, reviews, and drawings. PTT is also capable of making all overflow adjustments and modifications that may be required for the new service.

Demolition

When a tank can no longer be repaired, modified or moved to meet the owner’s needs, it should be dismantled and removed. PTT’s experienced demolition crews have been safely performing this service since 1919. Tanks are safely demolished, the scrap is disposed of properly, and the site is cleaned to customer’s satisfaction.

Fleet/Transportation

PTT is proud to be considered one of the most responsive tank companies in the USA. Our experienced service crews are equipped with reliable transportation, tools and the most modern equipment available to provide immediate mobilization for all emergency needs. PTT also takes pride in providing excellent customer service, and a representative with authority can be reached 365 days a year.

Projects

Cobra Tanks has developed a patented method of building welded stainless steel tanks and silos on site. The innovative coil construction adds strength and ease to building circular tanks and silos, without lifting devices, and requiring only a small crew. This method provides increased reinforcement, eliminating the need for extra internal reinforcing.

Stainless steel Cobra Tanks are designed for a variety of applications. Tanks may be designed to hold potable water, fire service water, irrigation water, brewery liquids, reserves, and waste water. Tank design and construction provides water tight and durable storage resulting in a quality product.
