North Central was formed by these agencies in 2004 to provide solid waste services for their citizens and is a local public body of the State of New Mexico. Each of the founding agencies appoints a Board member to the North Central Board of Directors. Collectively, the Board sets general policies and guidelines for North Central.
There is no operational landfill ("dump") in Rio Arriba County. North Central hauls away everything we collect. Household trash and construction debris are hauled to Rio Rancho. Recyclables go to Albuquerque (paper, cardboard and plastic), Santa Fe (glass) and Texas (tires). Branches are burned using an air-curtain burner, a device which reduces pollution from burning by re-burning the particles in its own smoke.
