About Nor-Lake

In 1947, Nor-Lake was founded in the garage of a creamery in Hudson, Wisconsin (located just east of St. Paul and Minneapolis). In the beginning, Nor-Lake designed refrigeration products for bar and restaurant operations and some of its first products are still being used today.

Nor-Lake originally manufactured ice cube makers. Over time, Nor-Lake expanded its operation to include a large variety of foodservice refrigeration products. In 1982, Nor-Lake created a separate Scientific Division.

Nor-Lake has been a consistent leader in refrigeration innovation and design.

1981 - Nor-Lake increased the insulation properties and energy savings of its products by changing from fiberglass to polyurethane foam insulation

1989 - Nor-Lake was the first U.S. commercial refrigeration company to introduce a HCFC blowing Ozone Guard-22 polyurethane insulation, which reduced the amount of ozone depleting CFCs given off by the refrigeration products

1994 - Nor-Lake became one of the first companies in the commercial refrigeration industry to receive ISO 9001 certification

1997 - Nor-Lake started using CFC free foam to be used in its polyurethane insulation

Through the years, Nor-Lake remained a family-owned business until 2003, when it became part of the Standex Foodservice Group. Standex is a diversified manufacturing and marketing company with major operations in foodservice. Standex’s objectives are to improve organization productivity and lower operating costs.

The Standex Foodservice Equipment Group is a broad-line manufacturer of innovative commercial foodservice equipment offering a wealth of refrigeration and cooking expertise. Products include walk-in coolers and freezers, refrigerated, non-refrigerated and hot display cabinets and storage systems, commercial ovens, rotisseries and cooking equipment, bakery and deli display cases, hot food counter-top products, rotary vane pumps and stainless steel fabrication, millwork and solid surface stonework.
