On April 1, 2007, Mid-Kansas Electric Company, LLC, closed the transaction that resulted in the acquisition of the Kansas Electric Network properties formerly owned by Aquila, Inc. The assets involved in this transaction were purchased for a base purchase price of $235.3 million. Aquila also sold its eight percent leasehold interest in the Jeffrey Energy Center (JEC) to Westar Energy. Under a separate power purchase agreement, Mid-Kansas now acquires 173 megawatts from JEC annually.

They were able to expand their territory, upgrade transmission lines, and ultimately, provide reliable energy at the lowest possible cost to even more people. Our Members remain committed to serving the needs of the now approximately 400,000 cooperative Members in central and western Kansas," said Stuart Lowry, president and CEO of Mid-Kansas Electric, LLC. “This means that even more Kansans are now part of a Member-owned system and have access to reliable energy at the lowest possible cost.”

Mid-Kansas customers receive retail electric service from Mid-Kansas through the six Members that provide both operations and maintenance services throughout the service area.
