About Company

COMPANY HISTORY

Metals in Motion was founded as St. Clair Refractories, Alloys, Metals, Inc. in 1995 by Tony Sparks. Tony brought his experience from Birmingham Alloys and developed a customer base of both ferrous and non-ferrous foundries across the southeastern United States. The next several years saw his sons, first Mark in 1995, followed by Sean in 1998, join the company, bringing valuable years of experience in several different career fields.

With growth brought the need to expand, and a small brick building located in Ashville, AL served as the first home office for the thriving business. Materials were warehoused and shipped from a warehouse in nearby Anniston, just a short distance away. In 2001, SCRAM grew yet again, this time into a newly-constructed 15,000 square foot warehouse and office located at its present address: 260 Fant Drive. The same year saw the addition of current warehouse and logistics manager, Calvin Bailey, to the company,

In 2010, after 16 years at the helm of Metals in Motion/SCRAM, Tony decided to step down and enjoy a well-deserved retirement. Andy, Tony’s third-oldest son, joined the company soon after in the role of President, bringing with him a metallurgical engineering education and more than two decades of experience in the foundry industry.

In 2014 the owners of SCRAM decided to re-brand the company as Metals in Motion, in hopes of becoming more marketable to new customers and more identifiable with their existing customers. Metals in Motion (MIM) has recently begun to expand into new areas of metal casting and forging, and to develop relationships with manufacturers of high-quality supplies and materials used in the metal casting, shaping and fabrication industry.
