Our mission

LSR is responsible for the collection and treatment of municipal waste in the city of Landskrona and the municipality of Svalöv. Municipal waste is the waste that comes from households. And the waste from businesses that is similar to waste from households.

We have also been commissioned to cover the Lundåkradeponin. That's the name of the tip in Landskrona and it's as big as the entire Citadel area. Now our mission is to restore the landfill and it will take a few years. But when it is finished, we will have transformed the landfill into a green and environmentally safe area.

When the waste that has been dumped at the landfill over the years decomposes, methane gas is formed. Methane is a really aggressive greenhouse gas - about 25 times worse than carbon dioxide. That is why we make use of that gas. With a network several kilometers long of buried plastic hoses, we suck it up from around 60 gas wells around the landfill. The methane gas is then pumped on to the Landskrona district heating plant, where it becomes heat that is enough to heat over 400 villas per year.

We also take care of the water that comes when it rains. We collect this in large leachate ponds, where we purify it, among other things, with the help of bacteria. We keep a close eye on the water in the ponds and when it is clean enough, we release it into Lundåkra Bay.
