Key Compostables is a shop launched in 2019 by the team at Key City Compost, a Maryland based composting company. We started in 2017 as a residential service company, picking up buckets of food waste from residents in and around our hometown of Frederick, Maryland. Shortly after launching our service, we got a bigger truck and started picking up from schools, offices, grocers, and restaurants. This broad involvement in the world of food exposed us to the difficulties in implementing sustainable practices. We were thrilled to be making great progress in building local infrastructure for landfill alternatives by composting! Good. Great! So what's next?

in July of 2019 with a goal to make it easier for our local sustainability partners to get their restaurants and cafes away from single use plastics. As the year went on, we continued to grow this offering and absolutely loved how it facilitated a deeper connection to our existing customers.

Most large food-sector distributors have high order minimums, complicated supply chains, monthly "membership" fees, and often expensive freight costs. Key Compostables is committed to making it easier and more affordable to source renewable and sustainable products without the hassle of a mainline distributor.
