Our Mission

Kernovate exists to divert usable materials from landfills and redirect them to community members in need. By focusing on mattresses—a bulky, problematic waste stream—we solve an environmental problem and a social one simultaneously.

Our Story

It started with a simple observation: perfectly good mattresses were being thrown away while families just miles away were sleeping on the floor.

Founder Kerry Kern saw an opportunity to bridge this gap. What began as a small project in a garage has grown into a full-scale recycling and donation operation, partnering with local agencies, waste management facilities, and community organizations.

Why Recycle?

Mattresses are a nightmare for landfills, but a resource for us.

Every year, thousands of mattresses end up in McLean County landfills. They take up massive amounts of space, create air pockets that can trap dangerous gases, and jam heavy machinery.

At Kernovate, we see things differently. Up to 90% of a mattress can be recycled. Steel springs, foam, wood, and fibers can all be reclaimed and given a new life.

Even better, mattresses that are in good condition are sanitized and refurbished through our BEDS Program, going directly to local families in need. Hands down the best thing about mattress recylcing are the JOBS it creates!
