How does the California CRV program work? Consumers pay CRV (California Refund Value) when they purchase beverages from a retailer located in California, which is refunded when the consumer redeems the containers at a California Certified Recycling Center. Effective January 1, 2007, CRV paid to consumers when they recycle containers at recycling centers increased to 5 cents for each beverage container less than 24 ounces and 10 cents for each container 24 ounces or greater.
