Frontier Steel is a steel service center that processes and distributes carbon steel plate in thicknesses ranging from 16ga to 16” as well as widths up to 120” and lengths up to 720.” To ensure customers that we have an effective quality system in-place, we hold ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Our 33-acre site is the former Dravo Barge Facility which manufactured Landing Ship Tanks (LSTs) during World War II. We’re located on Pittsburgh’s Neville Island, at mile marker 7.8 on the Ohio River. Our plant is easily accessible by barge and rail, and from Interstate 79.

John Matig started Frontier in 1999 and still serves as our president. Since 2012, we have been a division of Samuel, Son & Co., a Mississauga, Ontario-based world leader in the processing and distribution of carbon steels, structural shapes, pipes, beams, hollow structural sections, steel bar, electric resistance welded (ERW) tubing, stainless steel, tool steels, aluminum, copper, brass and pre-painted metals. Samuel, Son & Co. also fabricates specialized metal products and packaging, and offers a range of processing services.

Our association with Samuel, Son & Co. enables us to invest continually in the most modern equipment and systems. It also allows us to offer customers a wider selection of products and services than we could as an independent company.

Our Facility

We have 125,000 square feet of storage and processing space, and stock more than 12,000 tons of carbon steel plate and flat-rolled products.
