History

Colony was founded in 1985 by David Thompson in White Rock, BC. Colony started out as a fairly average metal building supplier and installer, but by the late 80’s, it was quickly becoming a large-scale supplier and installer of heavy industrial buildings with international reach. In 1998, the company moved its office to downtown Vancouver, where it continued to thrive until the company outgrew its space and made the move to a larger office in South Surrey, BC.

In 2010, the company began performing more than just metal building supply and installation and began its transition into not only being a steel construction specialist, but also being a full-service general contractor. After 30 years in business, in 2014, David Thompson decided that it was time to retire and Jesse Atkinson, a 10-year employee of the company, purchased Colony.

In 2015, realizing a growth issue for the company was due to the availability of quality subcontractors, Jesse decided that it was time for Colony to develop its own self-perform arm. Under Jesse’s four years of ownership, the company had doubled in both it’s employees and revenue.

Colony continues to trend for growth in the industry by providing quality services and upholding it’s primary objective… building happiness.
