About Company

Since 1905, our family owned jewelry store has been designing and selling the finest hand made jewelry.  Inside our web boutique you will see our exclusive collections of equestrian jewelry, nautical jewelry, and our complete line of traditional jewelry designs.  The vast majority of our horse jewelry and fishing jewelry is designed and made by Anderson Bass and is only available through Churchwell’s Jewelers.  Custom jewelry designs are always welcomed.  Please ask about recycling your gold, platinum and gemstones into one of our designs. The prices displayed on these pages are fairly current, and should be used as a reference only as the international metal markets have fluctuated wildly this past year.  You should always call for current prices.  Churchwell’s reserves the right to correct any incorrect prices.

Churchwell’s Jewelers has a long history of crafting the finest unique gold and sterling jewelry. The company was established in 1905 by Mrs. Mary Churchwell. At that time, Churchwell’s was simply a retail jewelry store catering to the local people of Wilson, North Carolina. Mrs. Churchwell continued to operate the jewelry store by herself until the 1940’s when Harold Seburn approached her about buying the jewelry store. Mr. Seburn, who was the second Graduate Gemologist in the state of North Carolina, continued to operate Churchwell’s Jewelers throughout his career until joined in the business by his son-in-law, L.A. Bass Jr. in the late 1960’s.

Under the guidance of Harold and L.A., Churchwell’s Jewelers continued to grow and drew their customers from the surrounding counties of Wilson, North Carolina. In the late 1970’s, Churchwell’s was picked to hand make a unique and beautiful 18kt gold, platinum, diamond and peridot necklace to be presented and displayed in the Smithsonian Institute. In 1991, L.A’s son, Anderson Bass, joined the store.

Shortly after moving Churchwell’s Jewelers from its former location in downtown Wilson out to the suburbs, Anderson and L.A. began designing and manufacturing a line of equestrian jewelry and traveling around the country to national horse shows displaying their unique gold and sterling jewelry. For the last 10 years in a row, Churchwell’s Jewelers has been voted “Jeweler of the Year,â€Â by the readers of Horse World magazine. In the spring of 2005, while attending a horse show, one of Churchwell’s regular customers recommended that we pursue Fishing Tournament Anglers, and start designing nautical jewelry. That next spring, Churchwell’s Jewelers debuted their line of gold and sterling silver nautical jewelry at the 2006 Miami International Boat Show. At the Miami Boat Show, the networking engine took off and Churchwell’s was signed on as a sponsor of the World Sailfish Championship in Key West, the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Tournament in San Destin, Florida, The Big Rock in Morehead City, North Carolina, The White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland and the Charleston Harbor Billfish Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina.

2007 was an unusually challenging year financially for a lot of retailers, but Churchwell’s had it’s best year ever, and a lot of its growth is directly attributable to the nautical line’s tremendous acceptance.

Most of the jewelers that you will see at a boat show or a fishing tournament are simply resellers of someone else’s designs. Churchwell’s is a very unique business. First and foremost, it is a family owned and operated business. Anderson and Angie continue to have their fingers on the pulse of every aspect of design, manufacturing and selling. All of their fine gold and unique sterling jewelry is designed right in the store. Whether the design is rendered in CAD and milled on a CNC machine, or hand wrought, the Bass family is behind every step. Secondly, you simply won’t find a more educated store to buy from. Anderson has completed the GIA diamond and diamond grading course, and is continuing his work towards a graduate gemologist degree. In 2014, Angie and Anderson closed the Wilson, NC store and moved the family and the store to Emerald Isle, NC where it is currently located.

The next time you’re at a horse show or fishing tournament and see Churchwell’s booth, you owe it to yourself to stop by, ask to hold a piece of their sterling silver and gold jewelry, and notice the attention to detail, feel the heft of the metal in their solid, three dimensional designs, admire the intensity of color that their gemstones have, and then look at the price tag. You will be holding in your hand an unequalled piece of art, created one at a time, from nature’s finest metals and gemstones, and brought directly to you by the family that brought it to life … all for a very fair price. What else could you ask for?

Please remember that as a small, family owned manufacturing and retail jeweler, we invite custom designs and special orders—no matter how unique. Churchwell’s will also use your gold, sterling silver, and gemstones in any of our designs. Anderson Bass, award winning goldsmith and designer and Angie Bass are on hand to assist in selecting fine and rare gemstones for your designs. Whether you shop in our store, at our booth during a horse show, on our website, or through this catalog, please remember… we want to be your jeweler!

Precious metals and gemstone prices have increased greatly in 2014. Churchwell’s will continue to make all of our designs from previous catalogs, but the prices printed in past catalogs are not current. The prices in this catalog are current as of October 1, 2007, but may fluctuate with the price of gold and sterling silver. As there may be errors in printing and other conditions beyond our control, Churchwell’s reserves the right to make any and all corrections. Nonetheless, you may rest assured that we will continue to hand craft the highest quality gold and unique sterling jewelry.
