Organization

The Calanda Group consists of several stock corporations and a stake in GRIBAG Beton AG and Reno Pumpbeton AG. The management reports to Giancarlo Weingart. The Calanda Group employs around 60 people.

The gravel extraction and processing takes place at the three locations: Chur, Reichenau and Bonaduz. GRIBAG Beton AG is responsible for the manufacture and sale of concrete at the Untervaz, Chur, Reichenau and Unterrealta locations. The Calanda Dump Service is active in the Dump Service (disposal / recycling). With Calanda Recycling AG Bonaduz, the recovery and disposal of building materials is ensured.

Tschudy, which specializes in crane work and special transports, has been part of the group since July 1, 2014, which is now run under the name Calanda Logistik.

Story

The initiators of Kieswerk Calanda AG were pioneers who clearly foresaw the development of the building industry after the Second World War. They recognized that the future would bring increased demands on gravel and sand processing as well as concrete production. When they succeeded in acquiring a suitable area on the Rhine, the realization of their vision came significantly closer. In January 1949 a concession agreement with the city of Chur was valid and the company was founded on February 19 of the same year.

The founders were the Chur entrepreneurs Peter Giger, Georg Rieder, Hans Stetter, Luzi Wolf and dipl. Ing.ETH Walter Zindel. These men, who were actively supported by Richard Schneller in the construction of the plant, were not discouraged by initial technical problems. With unbroken commitment, they led the new company to success in the years that followed. Little by little, other companies could be built around the parent company (Kieswerk Calanda AG).
