About Company

Black Bear Composting is an organics recycling company located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We help local businesses, organizations and residents reduce their waste stream by recycling their organic materials — food scraps, yard trimmings, and clean waste wood — into products for healthy soil.Black Bear Composting is an organics recycling company focused on collecting and recycling food scraps and yard trimmings through composting.Black Bear Composting has a turn-key commercial collection service that makes it easy for businesses to recycle their food scraps. We also work with landscapers, arborists and municipalities to recycle yard trimmings, leaves and wood chips. Black Bear Composting produces compost to use as an environmentally restorative soil amendment in farming, gardening, landscaping and lawn care. Our compost is also perfect for low impact development applications, erosion control and stormwater management.Help local businesses build a healthier community by recycling food scraps and yard trimmings into environmentally restorative compost. Black Bear Composting was founded in 2010 to play a role in organics recycling in Central Virginia. We were initially inspired by Poplar Manor Enterprises' food scrap collection program at Virginia Tech, and then other composting programs in Virginia and around the nation. Black Bear quickly joined the US Composting Council, retained the services ofCoker Composting & Consulting and immersed ourselves in the world of composting. In the summer of 2011, we found our home on a beautiful 47 acre farm in Crimora, located in Augusta County in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. While our story is short, it's just the beginning. Thanks to family, friends and colleagues for all of the support.Black Bear Composting is proud to offer Black Bear Compost. Screened to a 1/2 inch, this compost made from local food scraps, leaves and greenwaste makes an outstanding soil amendment that improves soil health — naturally.

Black Bear Composting's commercial collection program is a great way for organizations to reduce waste, save resources, and lower expenses in the process. We work with grocery stores, restaurants, schools, and other businesses that generate food scraps and other organic wastes. Directions: 152 McGuslin Lane (aka Route 628) is an approximated address since we don't have a have a building to be assigned an official address. However, it should get you close. Take Route 340 to McGuslin Lane (Route 628) and follow it over the railroad tracks and down to the marked gate in the bend in the road (see map below). If you get turned around, give us a call at 888-666-4172.
