University team creates 'transformers' from scrap metal

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): An associate professor in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, has made "transformers" similar to those in the popular movie series, Changsha Evening News reported on Friday.

Yang Gang, an associate professor and dean of the animation department at Hunan International Economics University, started to make transformers in June 2012 when he noticed waste metal pieces in a scrap yard.

Since then, Yang and his team have made more than 40 large and small transformers, of which more than 20 have been sold.

Recently, Yang and his team made a transformer similar to Hornet in the movie Transformers: Age of Extinction, using a scrapped Santana car they bought for 5,000 yuan ($807).
