Turkish rebar exports slightly up during Dec '14

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the country’s exports of reinforced bars increased marginally during the month of December last year.

According to TUIK statistics, the rebar exports during Dec ‘14 totaled 754,299 tons. Over the year, the exports increased marginally by 1.16%. The Turkish rebar exports during December 2013 had totaled 745,649 tons.

The rebar exports generated total revenue of $377 million during December last year, down by 13% when compared with the export revenues during the same month a year ago. The rebar exports had generated $433 million during Dec ’13.According to TUIK, the rebar export prices were down marginally during the month.

The largest export destination of Turkish rebars was the US. The imports by the US totaled 165,846 tons, surging by 43.88% when compared with the 115,267 tons during Dec ’13. The second largest importer of Turkish rebars was the UAE with 150,634 tons. The rebar exports to the UAE surged higher by 233% year-on-year.

According to industry sources, the rebar exports from Turkey to the US have started to improve towards end-2014. The imports had dropped significantly following the decision by the US Department of Commerce (US DOC) to impose anti-dumping duties on rebar imports from Turkey and Mexico during early-2014.
