SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): West Chicago, Illinois-based Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) has decided to partner with Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) on leadership projects to promote responsible recycling practices in North America. The leadership program assists organizations to develop and endorse responsible reuse and recycling procedures depending on their core competencies and sustainability goals.
A team of experts from SRS will co-ordinate with recycling facilities across the region to conduct background studies and preparations towards achieving R2 certification standard. As part of the R2 leadership initiative, the team will assist the recycling facilities with translations and internal audit procedures.
According to Steve Skurnac, President, SRS, facilities need to have a clear understanding of the R2 standard specification and requirements. The project, apart from imparting awareness and education on R2 standard, will also identify the key areas of operation that need improvement. SRS will use its expertise and resources to assist facilities in performing and working on gap-analysis study, which is widely believed to be initial step in achieving the certification.
SERI’s Program Director Henry Leineweber welcomed SRS to the elite group of companies and organizations that work towards promotion of sustainability of electronic devices. He added that project will immensely benefit out of the company’s long years of experience in the domain of electronics reuse and recycling.
