Sims Recycling Solutions Lend Helping Hand to R2 Certification Process

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Sims Recycling Solutions- a global leader in electronics reuse and recycling has partnered with Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) to help three Latin American electronics recycling facilities to prepare for their Responsible Recycling (R2:2013) certification audit. The initiative is also supported by DirectTV and Green Eye Partners. Sims Recycling Solutions helped the facilities with language translations and internal audits to make them prepare for R2 certification audit.

In a statement, Sims President Steve Skurnac noted that the assistance provided to the three Latin American facilities located in Chile, Ecuador and Colombia should be considered extremely significant as it will boost efforts to expand and promote responsible reuse and recycling across the world. He further noted that, Sims as an R2 leader will continue its efforts to lead by example in promoting sustainability and responsible IT asset disposition around the globe. The project has helped to spread awareness about R2 certification standard in Latin American region. Skurnac referred to the commitment and dedication exhibited by these three facilities in getting certified and hoped that the process will bring in increased opportunities in the long term.

Sims Recycling Solutions has already achieved the prestigious R2 certification for its recycling facilities in Australia, India, Singapore, UAE and the US. The company’s Stalybridge, Manchester, UK electronics recycling facility had recently achieved the certification from SERI. Incidentally, Sims Recycling Solutions’ UAE facility is the first R2 certified facility in the entire Middle East region. In addition, its on-site destruction facilities across the US were awarded AAA certification by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) in recognition of the highest operating standards followed in responsible and safe destruction of private digital data from electronics devices before recycling.

The R2:2013 is the latest version of R2 and the leading certification in the electronics recycling industry. It provides a common set of processes, safety measures, and documentation for ITAD companies. R2 certified vendors repair, disassemble and recycle used electronic equipment using processes that emphasize reuse, transparency, environmental health and worker safety.
