Scrap metal exporter signs new terminal agreement at Port Canaveral

ORLANDO (Scrap Monster): Port Canaveral Scrap Terminal LLC has signed a lease with the Canaveral Port Authority to operate a terminal in the north cargo area at Port Canaveral.

The lease value was not disclosed.

Under the terms of the one-year agreement, Port Canaveral Scrap Terminal will lease 4 acres with a 100,000-ton minimal annual guarantee. The company is a bulk ferrous scrap exporter.

“This company helps us with diversification of our cargo mix,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Walsh. “More importantly, it helps our planet since recycling scrap metal reduces greenhouse gas emissions and uses less energy than making metal from virgin ore.”

The U.S. recycles 150 million metric tons of scrap materials annually, including 85 million tons of iron and steel, 5.5 million tons of aluminum, 1.8 million tons of copper, 2 million tons of stainless steel, 1.2 million tons of lead and 420,000 tons of zinc, according to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
