Russia's steel scrap exports dropped in August

The Russian scrap exports increased slightly during the initial eight-month period of the current year. On the other hand, exports during August ’15 alone dropped over the previous year.

Russia's steel scrap exports dropped in August

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): The most recent trade statistics released by Russia indicates that the country’s steel scrap exports declined during August ’15. The combined exports during the eight-month period from January to August this year were up slightly.

The country’s scrap exports during the month of August alone totaled 546,000 tons. The exports witnessed marginal decline of nearly 2% year-on-year. The Russian scrap exports during August last year had totaled 557,000 tons. When matched with July this year, the scrap exports during June ’15 were down by almost 10%. Russia’s steel scrap exports during July ’15 had totaled 607,000 tons.

The largest export destination of Russian scrap during August this year was Belarus. The Russian exports to Belarus totaled 145,000 tons, accounting for nearly 26.5% of the total Russian exports. The exports to Belarus increased sharply by 28.9% year-on-year. The second largest export destination was Turkey. The Russian exports to Turkey dropped sharply by 38.1% over the previous year to 142,000 tons. In third place was Korea with 115,000 tons. The Korean imports of Russian steel scrap increased 35% over the previous year.

According to trade data, Russia exported 3.307 million tons of scrap during the initial eight months in 2015. The exports during the period were slightly higher by 0.4% when compared with the exports during the corresponding eight-month period in 2014. The Russian scrap exports had totaled 3.294 million tons during January to August last year.

The country’s average monthly scrap exports amounted to 414,000 tons.

The Russian steel scrap exports are expected to exceed 5 million tons during the entire year 2015.
