Mitsubishi sets up e-scrap division to boost electronic scrap collection

SAN DIEGO (Scrap Monster): The US subsidiary of the Japan-based Mitsubishi Materials Corp has launched a new e-scrap division within its Los Angeles office. The creation of the new division is aimed at boosting the collection of electronic scrap to take its recycling business to new heights. The e-scrap division was officially opened on July 1st.

According to Mitsubishi, the establishment of e-scrap division will play a prominent role in upholding its objective of establishing a recycling-oriented society that recovers and recycles precious metal components from electronic scrap such as circuit boards. The company intends to increase the volume of materials that it receives through collection streams.

The exports of electronic scrap from North America to Japan have improved considerably during the recent years. The exports in 2013 totaled 28,000 tons. The newly launched e-scrap division at its US business centre would help the company to expand its base in the region and promote the recovery and exports of scrap electronics.

The newly established department will be responsible for conducting necessary market research on recycling business trends and prospects. The department will also co-ordinate the company’s business with local recycling business operators.
