E-Stewards launches online trading platform to boost e-waste recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The environmental watchdog and promoter group- Basel Action Network (BAN) has launched new online e-waste trading platform in collaboration with Seattle-based Retrace. The official launch of the new platform was held during the E-Scrap 2014 electronics recycling conference held in Florida recently. The ‘e-Stewards Marketplace’ allows businesses to connect with e-Stewards certified e-waste recyclers to recycle their old electronics.

Businesses can register with the Marketplace where they can sell their used electronic goods to e-Stewards certified electronics recyclers. The certified recyclers in turn are allowed to sell non-hazardous waste materials to anyone. Additionally, the platform also allows transactions among recyclers, allowing them to sell into or buy scrap from other certified recyclers.

The platform has received widespread support from all e-Stewards recyclers. Electronics manufacturing major LG electronics and data erasure and protection services firm Tabernus has also extended support to the initiative.

Last week, BAN had launched ‘e-Stewards Global Impact Calculator’- a new mobile application that will help to gauge the positive environmental benefits of using e-Stewards certified recyclers to mange electronic waste.

BAN is a non-governmental charitable organization working to combat the export of toxic waste, toxic technology and toxic products from industrialized societies to developing countries.
