Bourne Police Recycling Used Electronics

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Bourne Police Department is accepting used cell phones and tablets at their location.

So far, the department has collected 70 devices that will then be erased and recycled, with credit going back to police for the purchase of equipment to aid in the training and investigation of computer crimes.

The electronics get shipped to a national company that is helping other police departments across the country recycle as well.

Bourne Police Sergeant Brandon Esip says the collection means a lot to the department.

“It took about six months to get to the level we’re at. We’ll find out in a few weeks exactly what the value is. Any amount we have is better than nothing, so it’ll be a great benefit I believe,” said Esip.

Esip adds that they started collecting electronics about six months ago, and people have offered to donate their devices by mail to the department.

Esip believes there’s a benefit to having money coming back to the department.

“It not only benefits us, but in turn it will benefit the community as a whole as well because it gives us the tools we need to be able to investigate these computer crimes while not having to pull money from already tight budgets,” said Esip.

Those looking to donate their electronics can do so in the Bourne Police Department’s lobby, which is open 24 hours a day.
