HISTORY

TORRANCE IRON & METAL COMPANY was founded in 1946 by David Stein. In its early years TIMCO's principal business was the processing and trading of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. By the mid-1960's David's sons, Ronald and Robert Stein, joined TIMCO and began to shape the growth and dynamics of the company. During the early 1970's the first aluminum melting furnace was developed and built in TIMCO's Carson, California, facility. This furnace changed the direction of the company from a scrap processor to an aluminum alloy ingot producer which produced high quality alloys to specific customer requirements. As growth continued the brothers further diversified TIMCO. By the mid-1970's, in an effort to expand and increase its growth potential, they entered into an association with STANDARD METALS RECYCLING. Owned and operated by Bill Levine, STANDARD METALS RECYCLING handled mainly aluminum scrap of large industrial manufacturers. Through the efforts of the three principals a new company, TANDEM INDUSTRIES, was formed to produce aluminum alloy billet, and purchased a facility adjacent to TIMCO in Carson where it designed and constructed a billet manufacturing facility. In 1976 the three companies merged to form the present corporation of TST Inc. Under this structure the company continued to grow with the guidance of all three principles. Today TST Inc., with its three divisions, is a leader in the world market of aluminum alloy ingot, billet, and scrap metal trading. From its 1976 inception, the goal of the principals, was to create an environment of high quality and growth. With this philosophy, TST acquired additional land and created a new facility in Fontana, Ca., and a new scrap processing plant in Carson.TIMCO is the largest specification aluminum ingot producer in the Western USA. With production capacity in excess of ten million pounds per month, TIMCO maintains the highest quality in producing clean, gas-free ingots. Although TIMCO is a high-volume producer, it maintains the flexibility needed to meet individual customer specifications. TIMCO 's line of alloys covers a wide spectrum of domestic and foreign types. Low-alkali metal content, in-line filtration, underpour casting and complete trace element reporting are the major advantages of using TIMCO ingot.

STANDARD METALS DIVISION

STANDARD began as a local aluminum scrap processor and has grown steadily to become one of the country's major firms dealing in industrial ferrous and non-ferrous scrap. STANDARD obtains its scrap from a wide range of domestic and international industries and manufacturers. The scrap is processed and shipped to consumers worldwide.
By utilizing a large capacity shredder equipped with an Eddy Current separation system, Standard is able to provide the highest quality shredded aluminum for numerous applications
