History

Sunnking was initially formed in 2000 as a reseller of electronic equipment. As equipment was bought and sold, there came a point when we had accumulated equipment with no value. True electronic scrap! Owner, Duane Beckett, turned to his previous 10 years in the scrap metal industry and began recycling the obsolete equipment as scrap metal. Knowing that clean streams and maximum weight means better returns, Sunnking invested in simple yet effective recycling equipment to separate each commodity stream. As the industry of e-scrap evolved and the “green” movement escalated, Sunnking was able to position itself as a leader within this industry. The combination of scrap metal experience with high tech sales channels created the model that we still use today. Since our start, Sunnking has increased recycling volumes to over 20 million pounds annually and is NY State’s first EPA R2 certified recycler.

"End-of-life" electronics and equipment are a growing concern on a global level, and advances in technology continuously render electronics and other equipment obsolete in a relatively short period of time. Businesses and consumers increasingly rely on technology for everyday activities, and the need and importance of certified and responsible electronics recycling increases with it.

Our Facilities
Sunnking's electronics recycling facilities are located in Rochester and Buffalo and specialize in dismantling, sorting, refurbishing and reselling electronics and equipment. Our "ewaste" recycling process maximizes value and recoverability in an environmentally friendly manner minimizing hazardous and harmful materials that would normally end up in our community's waste streams. Our R2/RIOS Certification holds us to the highest health, safety, environmental responsibility and data security standards and we are audited by a 3rd party on an ongoing basis to ensure maximum compliance. In addition to serving businesses throughout the state and surrounding areas our network of electronics recycling collection sites allows residents to drop-off items for recycling at no cost.
Acceptable Materials
Some of the common items that we recycle include: computers (desktops & laptops), printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions (CRT, LCD, LED, plasma),, cell phones, IT & networking equipment, medical & lab equipment, communications equipment, phones, servers, monitors (CRT, LCD, LED), MP3 players, PDA's, tablets, ink and toner cartridges, and pretty much anything else with a circuit board or cord!

Data Security
Data security is one of our main priorities for every piece of equipment that enters our facility. Sunnking's secure data sanitation and destruction process has been thoroughly tested and audited to guarantee that your data remains private. Whether its information stored on your hard drive or any other media device, every piece of equipment that enters our facility follows the same process to ensure that storage devices are removed, securely wiped and/or shredded.

Electronics Recycling

As electronic scrap proliferates, the need to dispose of old equipment in an environmentally responsible way has increased. For over a decade we have been providing superior electronics recycling services to residents and businesses in New York State.

Most electronics are 100% recyclable. Common materials that are recovered through our process for reuse include glass, copper, aluminum, tin, steel, iron, plastic, silver, platinum, and gold. In addition to these reusable materials, there are also a handful of harmful and highly toxic substances such as lead, mercury, beryllium, lithium, cadmium, BRFs (Brominated Flame Retardants), PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls), and PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride).

Data Destruction

With the use of increasingly sophisticated encryption, an attacker wishing to gain access to an organization’s sensitive information is forced to look outside the system itself for that information. One avenue of attack is the recovery of supposedly deleted data from media. Residual data may allow unauthorized individuals to reconstruct data and thereby gain access to sensitive information. Sanitization can be used to thwart this attack by ensuring that deleted data cannot be easily recovered.
Hard Drive Shredding
Hard drives and other components store valuable and confidential data. Electronic information is already covered by HIPAA and FACTA for businesses, but shredding is ultimately the best solution for outdated hard drives and other information storage units. All hard drives and other storage devices are securely locked under 24/7 video surveillance until wiped or destroyed. Sunnking can provide serialization of every hard drive, secure lock boxes sent to your location, and Certificates of Destruction (COD).
