Our fast, efficient, and valuable service is sure to please you!

In late 2012, an idea was born to create an IT asset management, data destruction, and recycling/remarketing company that did things a bit differently than many others in the industry. As we watched corporations decline profitable deals because the profit margins were less than a preselected percentage all while the backlogs to process and audit the deals deemed profitable enough grew and grew, we knew we could do better. When Rocycle was developed, there were two things we wanted to make sure we did better.

  • A flexible profit margin range to be able to allow us to offer the best values back to our clients while affording us the freedom to handle small, medium, and large jobs.
  • A fast turnaround on processing and auditing equipment.

In the time Rocycle has been operating, we have held to these differences. In an industry of shrinking values and lengthening auditing/processing backlogs, that really makes us stand out! Give us a try and you’ll see for yourself.2015 has been a huge year for Rocycle. We brought on several new employees, moved to a larger warehouse, joined the Equipment Leasing and Financing Association to increase our presence in the IT equipment leasing industry, and sponsored a drag car.2016 is going strong so far! We’ve added a membership to NAID, the National Association for Information Destruction. We are actively pursuing this certification as well!

Services

IT asset management, or ITAM, joins financial, contractual, and inventory functions to manage the lifecycle IT assets. The role of the asset manager is to manage the hardware assets and ensure the IT assets’ value has been maximized through proper implementation, maximum usage, and return value after the asset has been designated for removal. This final yet crucial step in the asset management process is often not profitably utilized. Many companies assume that their equipment no longer has value and simply give it to an IT recycler or even pay a recycler to remove the equipment for them. Rocycle specializes in finding the equipment that still has value and will make you an offer based on fair market value on any equipment we audit and process for you. We can even give you estimated values if you can provide us with a list of equipment before the equipment is in our facility. Don’t assume your equipment no longer has value. Let our experts evaluate your equipment to ensure you get the maximum return on your IT assets investment.

When Rocycle receives your equipment, our auditing process begins. We inspect the equipment to ensure it’s complete making notes of missing components and cosmetic flaws. Our trained technicians log each item in a spreadsheet for you then test the equipment. See our Auditing Equipment page for more details. After the equipment has been audited, it is dispositioned. If the IT asset still has value, Rocycle will make you a revenue share offer based on fair market value and remarket equipment after the total value has been agreed upon. The best way to recycle IT assets is through reuse. If an agreement cannot be reached on the equipment value, we offer you the opportunity to pick your equipment back up or sell it yourself from our facility for only the cost of processing and labor.

However, that’s not always possible. When a hardware asset is truly at the end of its useful life by either being obsolete and no longer of any value in the current marketplace or not working or repairable, the equipment is designated for de-manufacturing. The de-manufacturing, or deman, process consists of separating base materials such as steel, aluminum, plastic, and glass then recycling that material based on material type.IT asset managers shoulder the responsibility to ensure their company’s IT assets are properly disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. By choosing Rocycle as your hardware asset’s destination, you can rest assured that your company’s equipment won’t end up in landfills and will be managed in an environmentally responsible manner.

Crushing

What information do you have on your computer? Have you made an online purchase? If so, your credit card information could be stored. Do you log into your bank account online? If so, your banking information could be accessible. Do you have customer information or data on your computer? How about financial records, medical information, or social security info, or employee data? You need Information security and data security when your IT asset leaves your facility.

Often, you hear about data security breaches. Databases are hacked and sensitive information gets compromised. Many companies have data security positions to ensure their information is well protected. But what about the information on the physical hardware? Just one hard drive can contain hundreds of thousands of files. At Rocycle, we have procedures in place to make sure your sensitive information is handled safely and securely. You can have peace of mind knowing your data will be made inaccessible. We comply with DoD standards for data erasure. The policy states, “Classified material may be destroyed by burning, shredding, pulping, melting, mutilation, chemical decomposition, or pulverizing (for example, hammer mills, choppers, and 5-7-1 DoD 5220.22-M, February 28, 2006 hybridized disintegration equipment).*”

If a hard drive fails testing or if our customer requests, Rocycle offers hard drive crushing data destruction services. In our facility, we crush the drives so they may not be inserted into a machine again. It renders the drive useless by breaking the internal components and bending the drive case. This ensures data privacy. The force is sufficient to mutilate the drives. The drives are then irreparable and unable to be reconnected or inserted into another machine. By rendering the drives useless, no information can be accessed from it. The crushed drives are sent on to a specialized facility the breaks them down into base materials and those base materials go on to have a new use as other products.

For our customers’ records, we log the serial numbers of each drive and notate that it has been crushed. This information is provided to the customer on the audit. Certificates of destruction are also available.

Batteries

Rocycle receives batteries in many kinds of equipment we recycle. Whether it’s a lithium-ion battery in a laptop or a silver oxide battery from a board, batteries need to be handles carefully and properly. We collect the various batteries and store them on a spill-proof pallet to protect the environment in the case of a leaking battery. The four most common types of batteries are alkaline manganese batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and silver oxide batteries. Nickel-cadmium and silver oxide batteries both contain potentially hazardous toxic metals and should never be disposed of in the trash. Batteries can produce toxic vapors when metal is burned that can pollute close bodies of water, contribute to heavy metals that may leach from landfills, and expose the environment to lead and acid.Other types of batteries we recycle are: nickel metal hydride batteries, nickel-iron batteries, both types of carbon zinc batteries, zinc air batteries, polapulse batteries, zinc chloride batteries, mercury batteries, mercuric oxide batteries, absorbed glass mat batteries, sealed lead acid batteries, and wet cell batteries.

Desktop Computers

Rocycle can recycle any type of PCs! We recycle small form factors, ultra small form factors, standard sized desktops, and even stand up servers. If the PC still has value, Rocycle will make you an offer on the equipment and remarket it. When a desktop is deemed obsolete or not able to be remarketed for any number of reasons, our trained technicians demanufacture the PC by disassembling it.Desktop computers or PCs are one of the most thoroughly recyclable IT assets. A typical desktop will contain a steel case, an aluminum heat sink, a battery, a hard drive, memory, a mother board, wires, plastic, and other materials all of which are completely recyclable items or materials. Hard drives are either wiped using a DoD compliant program or crushed so the information contained therein can never be accessed again. The various components are sorted and sent to our downstream partners for further processing then returned to their raw material state of copper, aluminum, steel, etc. which is then reused. With e-waste growing at an alarming rate, ensuring your PC doesn’t wind up in a landfill is a responsible decision. Recycle your desktops with Rocycle!

Laptops

Rocycle can recycle laptops. Laptop computers are growing rapidly in popularity. As more and more companies move away from desktop PCs to the convenience of portable laptop computers, what to do with the old laptops needs to be considered. There could be sensitive data on the laptops and this data needs to be removed by professionals like Rocycle.

When we receive laptops, we test it for functionality. We wipe or crush the hard drive per your instructions. If the laptop is still has value, we will make you an offer on the equipment. If the laptops are obsolete or non-functioning, we designate them for demanufacturing. We demanufacture laptops in-house. We separate the various components like memory, batteries, plastic, and more. The materials are then sent to various specialty downstream partners that process the components and return them to raw material for reuse. As laptops age, their values decrease. Your best bet is to recycle laptops as quickly as possible after they are deemed no longer necessary or to be disposed of. Recycle your laptops with Rocycle!

Monitors

Computer monitors make up the largest percentage of e-waste generated worldwide. With the potential for hazardous or toxic materials, such as the lead in Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors, it is important to recycle monitors and ensure this equipment is handled properly. CRT monitors can be recycled in two different ways. They can either go into a lead smelter or it can be glass to glass recycled. Glass to glass recycling is creating new leaded glass from old leaded glass.Non CRT monitors, like the standard LCD monitors yield valuable components including steel, aluminum, and copper. Whether you have a single monitor or a hundred monitors, Rocycle can recycle monitors of all types.
