Renew Computers, founded in 1988, is the largest independent electronics recycling company in Marin County, California. We have a warehouse facility and service center centrally located in downtown San Rafael where computers and electronics are collected, sorted, repaired, resued or properly recycled. Fortunately we are able to reuse many quality products that would otherwise go to landfill or be scrapped. We have a staff of qualified technicians that work hard to bring these computers back to a reusable state where they can then be recycled back to the community as reliable working systems. In addition to our recycling center, we operate a discount parts warehouse, retail store, and service department. We are proud to qualify as a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher.

In 2016 Renew Computers reused or recycled over One Million pounds of electronic waste. All electronics donated will be processed within the United States, either in our facility or by a certified recycler, and no items will ever end up in a landfill. We are an authorized e-waste collector in the State of California. Certified and audited by the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). Certificate #100888.

E-Waste Pick-up Services

For (very) large sources or where two personnel are needed an additional moving/handling fee will be added.  We are now charging large corporate sources an additional fee for e-waste recycling: please call ahead for a detailed quote.  The costs of electronics recycling has greatly increased over 2015 and 2016. Remember that choosing Renew will ensure that your electronics/equipment will be responsibly recycled or reused within our community.We accept cash, company checks and all credit cards except American Express.  Sorry, no personal checks accepted.

Data Security & Hard Drive Destruction

Renew Computers also specializes in data security services for both businesses and individuals. If your computer contains sensitive data you should consider having the hard drive wiped or destroyed before the recycle/reuse process begins. We are also able to destroy/wipe other electronics and medias such as cell phones, floppy discs and back-up tape drives.

Hard Drive Destruction: $10/drive - For a $10 fee we will remove your hard drive and destroy it for you. This service is done quickly in our shop while you wait and you may personally witness its destruction. We guarantee this is the best way to "brick" your hard drive; i.e. rendering it forever useless...so please note this process is permanent and irreversible. (If not concerned about your data you may drop off any hard drive or computer at no charge; It will be shredded at our downstream recycler within one to two weeks.)

For Businesses & Organizations:

For businesses/organizations in need of data destruction on a larger scale we are fully equipped to wipe or destroy all types of hard drives from any office environment using effective industry standards. The normal charge is still $10 per drive and our completion time is between one and two business days. Our technicians personally handle each drive, cataloging each serial number as they go. The drives are then permanently destroyed or completely wiped-over for reuse. If needed, a Certificate of Destruction can be issued upon the client's request, including a detailed list of all drives handled and processed. This service is done securely inside our warehouse.

• Cardboard and/or Cardboard boxes! (OK if still in original packaging)
• Commercial Copy machines/Large Copiers (We can accept this item for $35 each)
• Large Architect/Plotter Printers (We can accept this item for $35 each)
• Microwaves (We can accept this item for $5 each)
• Wooden speaker cabinets (if hollowed/empty)
• Furniture
• Large household appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, etc.
• Styrofoam
• Large containers or wooden boxes
