The auto recycling or salvage yard first entered the industry during the 19th century, and has been here ever since. A scrap yard, more commonly known as a wrecking yard or junkyard, store and remove parts from old or write-off vehicles, and often create scrap metals from them. Vehicles that are too old or damaged to be sold normally are recycled, and the metal is sold to other industries. Vehicles brought to auto recycling yard usually are dismantled and all hazardous materials in any form including gas, oil and other fluids, tanks and reservoirs are disposed of in an environmentally acceptable way.
