Haines Recycles

Haines Friends of Recycling was chosen to receive the Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling 2011 Outstanding Community Award for the “outstanding accomplishments in bringing recycling services to the community of Haines”.  We thank all of our volunteers, members, and supporters for their efforts that made this award possible.

• We are a 501(C)(3) membership organization founded in 1998.
• Volunteers are always welcome!
• We have approximately 220 households, businesses, and organizations that are members. Our membership form is under "membership" on this website.
• Alaska Marine Lines provides us free back-hauling to Seattle and that is what makes it possible to recycle in Haines. Thank you AML!
• We are funded through memberships, grants, and sale of recyclable
  materials.
• Recycling is free to everyone; we appreciate memberships or donations to support our efforts.

Special Event Recycling

• E-waste: once a year, in a summer special event, we have an electronic waste collection day for computers, printers, televisions, etc. We charge by the pound to cover our costs. Look for our ads on KHNS and the CVN and in flyers around town.

• Scrap metal collections: We collect scrap metal once a year at a summer special event. Look for our ads on KHNS and the CVN and in flyers around town. NO SCRAP METAL RECYCLING IN 2016! Sorry, this is due to the low prices for scrap metal in the global marketplace.

• Special Events: Recycling and composting at community events like the SouthEast Alaska State Fair, 4th of July, Bike race, etc.
