About Yard

Our history dates back to 1901, when we started as a nail factory in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Today, we have hundreds of locations in 14 countries around the world and our products are present in the daily lives of millions of people. Annually, millions of tons of scrap are recycled and turned into quality steel, which serves the construction, industrial, agricultural and automotive sectors.

We believe our steel has the strength of transformation, and since the beginning of our history, we have aimed to transform lives. Steel turns projects into reality, developing communities and making them better places to live. We are the leading producer of long steel in the Americas, and one of the largest suppliers of special long steel in the world. Additionally, we are the largest supplier to the automotive industry worldwide. In Brazil, we also produce flat steel and iron ore, which expands our product mix and improves the competitiveness of our operations.

MISSION
To create value for our customers, shareholders, employees and communities by operating as a sustainable steel business.

VISION
To be a global organization and a benchmark in any business we conduct.

Recycling

For us, recycling is not just an initiative of environmental protection, but it is also part of its business strategy. Every year, we transform more than 14 million metric tons of steel scrap into new steel present in the everyday lives of millions of people in many ways. The use of steel scrap as raw material in our productive process reduces the consumption of energy in the steel process and consequently, it minimizes emissions of CO2. Moreover, we generate jobs for thousands of people through an extensive chain of scrap collection and processing for recycling. We also contribute to the preservation of the environment and reducing the amount of material deposited in landfills and inappropriate sites.

Scrap

Did you know that steel is an endlessly recyclable material? Most of the scrapre cycled by our company comes from materials that are no longer used by the community, such as stoves, refrigerators, and old cars. Also, we recycle the steel resulting from the production process of industries such as automotive, packaging and appliances. This material is recycled into new steel products, which are present in the everyday lives of millions of people.

Gerdau Metallics Raw Materials is responsible for taking items, like old home appliances, vehicle parts, industrial by-products and steel cans, that have been discarded from society and transforming them for steel-making.

Currently, Gerdau's long steel operations in North America operate more than 30 recycling facilities that collect, sort, and process millions of tons of scrap annually for our steel-making operations. Gerdau's long (GLN) and special steel (GSN) divisions in North America currently rank as the second largest recycler of ferrous scrap in North America.Gerdau's recycling activities reflect our core value of Community and Environmental Awareness. Our recycling efforts help to eliminate potential disposal hazards and offer many unique benefits, including the prevention of contamination from used automotive oil filters, the elimination of confiscated firearms from local police authorities, and the recycling of used automotive tires and metal residue from community garbage incinerator operations.
