1897 – L. Lavetan and Sons, Inc. founded in York, PA.
1904 – Benjamin Abrams immigrates to the United States from Lithuania and eventually buys a horse cart, and works as a peddler of recyclable goods, including collecting scrap metal.
1907 – Benjamin Abrams establishes his first fixed recycling location in Harrisburg, PA.
1925 – Benjamin Abrams and his sons move their business, B. Abrams and Sons Inc., to its current location and build the first building on Cameron Street in Harrisburg, PA.
1996 – L. Lavetan & Sons, Inc. expands by constructing a new headquarters and full service, indoor non-ferrous processing facility in West York, PA.
1999 – B. Abrams & Sons Inc. and L. Lavetan and Sons, Inc. merge to form Consolidated Scrap Resources, Inc.
2000 – CSR acquires Wagaman Iron & Metal in Gettysburg, PA. CSR-Gettysburg becomes CSR’s fifth operating facility.
2002 – CSR begins operating its 4000 horsepower metal shredder at its Harrisburg facility.
2008 – CSR acquires the recycling business assets of Brandywine Recyclers, Inc. in Lebanon, PA. CSR-Brandywine becomes CSR’s sixth operating facility.

CSR employees have the privilege of working with an outstanding Safety Director, Rick Hare. Rick plays integral roles in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws, and administering and enforcing our own safety standards.

CSR is a Signatory to the ISRI Safety Pledge
The trade association to which CSR belongs, the Institute of ScrapRecycling Industries, Inc. or ISRI, recently began a program emphasizing the safe operation of scrap recycling operations. Emphasizing enhanced safety, the company recently signed an ISRI Safety Pledge.
The Safety Pledge says that Consolidated Scrap Resources, Inc. is committed to providing a safe and healthful workplace to our employees. As members of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. we pledge to consider worker and customer safety in every decision we make.
Our mission as a company is to serve customers and produce high-quality product safely.
CSR's company-wide policies ensure that scrap is handled and processed in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Company employees are trained to recognize and refrain from processing potentially unsafe, harmful or hazardous materials until they have taken measures to eliminate risks and prevent the release of contaminants.
Our commitment to a clean and safe environment has extended to the design of our largest and most often used equipment, a scrap metal shredding system. The essence of a metal shredder like ours is to maximize our ability to reclaim recyclable material that has reached the end of its useful life and would otherwise find its way to a landfill. Instead, the material we reclaim and sell to consumers becomes new and useful. Our metal shredder employs a Smart-Water Injection System© and an enclosed airflow system to control dirt, dust and other potential fugitive emissions, and to help assure our production of the cleanest, highest quality shredded scrap available.
